MTN Ghana has rewarded 275 agents, merchants and MoMo agents operating within Western and Central regions of Ghana over the weekend in Takoradi. The award ceremony was aimed at recognizing the sacrifice, contributions, dedication and the hard work of the agents merchants, and MoMo agents towards the growth of the MTN MoMo in the South-West sector. Big Joe Ventures, from Kasoa Datus in the Central region, was adjudged the overall best agent for MTN 2022 MoMo agents and Merchants awards. He was given a motorbike and electronic cash prize of 50,000 Ghana cedis. The First runner-up went to Lawson ventures from Kasoa in the Central region. He received a motorbike and electronic cash prize of 20,000 Ghana cedis. The People's Investment was adjudged the second runner-up. He was given a motorbike and electronic cash prize of 10,000 Ghana cedis. Prizes given to the award winners includes; citations, digital television sets, smartphones, laptops, CCTV cameras, motorbikes, and Electronic cash prizes. The criteria for the selection of the award winners were the years an agent had worked for MTN, the total number of quality customers an agent had registered, the volume and value of transactions, zero incidents of fraud recorded at an agent's working location as well as customers' feedback on transaction by agents. The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Mobile Money Limited, Shaibu Haruna, speaking at the award ceremony indicated that the MTN Mobile Money Limited has 13.3 subscribers and this was achieved through the tireless efforts of mobile agents who travel throughout the country, growing the subscriber base. According to him, this year's awards ate more rewarding because of the unique challenges the industry encountered. “It has been a challenging year with the introduction of E-levy, the challenges our customers have had with accessing their MoMo wallets during the sim barring exercise and also the challenging economic environment we find ourselves in, but our resilience as a people has enabled us to soldier on and today, we are here to celebrate our achievements and strategize for the next year.” These issues, according to him, have put a lot of pressure on the entire business.
