The Governing Council of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU), at its 5th Council meeting held on Friday, 16th December 2022, approved the promotion of Ing.Dr. Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim to an Associate Professor. By this promotion he is the first ever Alumni of the University faculty to be promoted to the rank of an Associate Professor. Ing. Associate Professor Abdul-Rauf Ibrahim 2021 was ranked 14th best Scientist in Ghana and the best (1st) Scientist in Tamale Technical University (TaTU) under the Engineering & Technology subject area by the AD Scientific Index. Before his promotion to this rank, he served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Engineering at Tamale Technical University. Ing. Abdul-Rauf is a Chemical Engineer specializing in industrial catalysis and supercritical fluid technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Industrial Catalysis) from Xiamen University, Xiamen-PRC, China, and Masters in Chemical Engineering (Supercritical Fluid Technology) from the same University in China. He obtained his H.N.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Tamale Technical University and Tamale-Ghana. Since his employment at the University in 2016, he has held several positions in the University, including his current position as the Dean of Engineering, Dean of Graduate School, Director of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research (IAER), and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department. His total Google citations for publications as of 2022-12-22 are 906 citations, with 576 citations since 2017. The total h-index publications are 15, and the complete i10-index publications are 18. His highest-cited paper was published in 2011 with 119 Google citations (2nd highest was in 2012 with 114 citations). His research interests fall under the general synthesis and characterization of nanostructured and porous materials and the applications of these materials in catalysis, bioceramics, heavy metal recovery, and in drug delivery systems. Currently, he is interested in the use of local resources (wastes and plants) for product development and developing solutions using indigenous technology. He is also interested in supercritical fluid extraction and characterization (GC and HPLC) of plant components and supercritical fluid drying, as well as supercritical loading of drugs into nanostructured and porous inorganic materials for effective drug delivery. Ing. Associate Professor Abdul-Rauf is a member in good standing of the American Chemical Society (ACS), a member in good standing of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), and a Global Talent Mentor in Engineering. He was a reviewer for the Applied Research Conference of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Ghana, held in Ho-Ghana in 2019. He submitted a manuscript to this conference and was selected to make a presentation. He was appointed an Editorial Board Member for the 1st International Research Conference of Tamale Technical University (INCOTaTU) held in Tamale-Ghana in 2018. He has edited and reviewed several manuscripts for publications as well as theses, dissertations, and proposals. He was the representative of GhIE on the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Engineering week celebration and SADA international business and investment forum in 2015 held in Tamale-Ghana.
