The Nigeria Army helped end Civil Wars in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria Nigeria restored democracy in The Gambia, Togo, Sao Tome and Principe and Guinea Bissau. In 2017, Nigerian troops entered The Gambia alongside Senegalese and Malian troops to ensure President Barrow was sworn-in, after then President Yahya Jammeh refused to handover. In 2005, NIgeria's then President Olusegun Obasanjo ensured Togo held elections, after a coup installed Faure Gnassingbé as Togo's President, following the death of his dad, Gnassingbé Eyadéma who ruled for 38 years. In 2003, former President Obasanjo reinstated Sao Tome and Principe's President Fradique de Menezes after he was overthrown. The coup took place while he was in Nigeria on July 16, 2003.
